Christy SmithChristy Smith
Los Angeles, CA – The Heart of LA Democratic Club (HLADems), a Los Angeles County Democratic club which promotes equality and the full representation of women in local, state and national politics voted to endorse Assemblymember Christy Smith for Congress at their November 6 membership meeting. Smith is running for the seat vacated by Representative Katie Hill, who handily flipped the district from red to blue in 2018. CD 25 covers north Los Angeles County. Smith currently serves in the  38th Assembly District, a district that represents 58% of California's 25th Congressional District. The special election will be held in 2020 for the remainder of Hill’s term, followed by a primary in March and general in November for the 2021-2023 term. The election is March 3, 2020.

“Christy Smith is the right leader to serve Congressional District 25,” says Heart of LA Democratic Club president Lindsay Carlson. “Within days of announcing her candidacy, she secured the endorsement of more than 60% of the district’s delegates, as well as numerous colleagues from the state legislature, and Representatives Jimmy Gomez, Julia Brownley, Brad Sherman, and Harley Rouda. Christy Smith is a proven leader who looks out for the people in her district, and we will harness our resources behind her and keep the 25th district in Democratic control.”

About Christy Smith:
Assemblywoman Christy Smith is a 39-year resident of Santa Clarita. A leader from this district who has a proven record of fighting for this district, Smith was called "Passionate About Public Safety, Education," by the Signal SCV newspaper. In the state legislature, she works hard every day to advance common sense solutions to address the challenges facing the people and communities she represents. A leader on public safety, Smith wrote the law to compensate victims of human trafficking so that they have a chance to rebuild their lives. As Chair of the State Assembly's Joint Legislative Committee on Emergency Management, she co-authored a law that ensures first responders have mental healthcare covered in their workers’ compensation policy. Smith also serves on the State Assembly's Education Committee; the Jobs, Economic Development, and the Economy Committee; the Privacy and Consumer Protection Committee; as well as the Accountability and Administrative Review Committee. Prior to being sworn into the State Legislature, Smith served two terms as a Governing Board Member and as President of the highly successful Newhall School District. Prior to her time in elected office, while raising two daughters, Smith served as a PTA and site council member and also founded the Valencia Valley Technological Education Foundation. Before then, she started her career in public service as an analyst at the U.S. Department of Education. A graduate of Hart High School, Smith attended College of the Canyons and graduated with honors from UCLA with a B.A. in Political Science. https://www.christyforcongress.org/

Heart of LA Democratic Club
About the Heart of LA Democratic Club
Founded in March 2017 on the heels of the Presidential election, the Heart of L.A. Democratic Club was founded in recognition of the growing awareness within the Democratic Party that women should be fully and equally represented both in the political community and the national body politic. Heart of L.A. Democratic Club is open to all Democrats who subscribe to the club’s goals and purposes regardless of their gender identity. The mission of the Heart of L.A. Democratic Club is to help make the Democratic Party, the body politic and its elected officials responsive to, and responsible for, the needs of all people, particularly, though not exclusively, women in our community. In addition to endorsements, HLADems actively participate in political advocacy, as well as voter and community outreach. Monthly meetings feature guest speakers who include Democratic candidates, experts on policy and political processes, reproductive justice, homelessness, and more.
