Reproductive Rights and the Right to a Safe and Legal Abortion
Heart of LA Democratic Club Statement on the Evisceration of our Abortion Rights
by the Supreme Court of the United States
in Dobbs v. Jackson Health
The nearly 50-year precedent of Roe v. Wade has now been eviscerated by the right-wing majority of the Supreme Court. Anti-choice reactionaries hostile to women’s rights have been playing the long game and have finally succeeded in criminalizing abortion care across the United States.
We will keep fighting. The overwhelming majority of Americans are with us: 7 in 10 Americans believe abortion care should be legal, and they agree that everyone has the right to make their own choices about when, how, and whether they want to carry a pregnancy to term.
Please know that abortion is legal in California, and our legislators are committed to making sure that remains the case. We also know that California is likely to become a destination for others around the country who have lost their rights to obtain the abortion care that they need.
Below are actions we are continuing to take as a club to work towards reproductive justice and ensure that reproductive rights are enshrined. Join us.
What You Can Do TODAY:

Below are actions we are continuing to take as a club to work towards reproductive justice and ensure that reproductive rights are enshrined. Join us.
What You Can Do TODAY:
- Add your voice and help fight for reproductive freedom and reproductive justice through national and state legislative initiatives. We have endorsed bills that are pending before the state legislature including the proposed California Constitutional Amendment SCA10: Reproductive Freedom Bill, which would enshrine the right to abortion and right to choose or refuse contraceptives into the state constitution. Contact your State Assemblymembers to support SCA10 TODAY. You can find more legislative information on the HLADems website.
- Elect and re-elect pro-choice Democrats who put women’s rights and reproductive justice front and center. It is imperative we keep the Senate and the House of Representatives BLUE in November. Additionally, support candidates locally who are fully committed to reproductive justice. HLA Dems ONLY endorses pro-choice Democrats who share these values. If you are a Democrat residing in Los Angeles County and are not yet a member of the club, please support our efforts by joining now. If you are already a member, or if you are outside of Los Angeles County but wish to support our efforts, you can make a financial contribution to the club here.
- Donate to these organizations that help connect people with reproductive and abortion services: National Network of Abortion Funds and the California Future of Abortion Council.
- Donate to these organizations who are at the forefront of the fight to protect our rights through legislative action and in the courts: NARAL, Planned Parenthood Action, Center for Reproductive Rights. You can also donate to candidates through the NARAL endorsed candidates page – your contributions go directly to the candidates, but doing it this way through their website will show your support specifically for abortion and reproductive justice.

ABOUT THE HEART OF LA DEMOCRATIC CLUB
Founded in March 2017, the Heart of L.A. Democratic Club was created in recognition of the growing awareness within the Democratic Party that women should be fully and equally represented in local, state, and national politics.
