HEART OF LA DEMOCRATIC CLUB ENDORSES DR. LORAINE LUNDQUIST FOR LOS ANGELES CITY COUNCIL DISTRICT 12
The Club voted to endorse at the June 5 membership meeting. Runoff Election is August 13.
Los Angeles County, CA – The Heart of LA Democratic Club (HLADems), a Los Angeles County Democratic club which promotes equality and the full representation of women in local, state and national politics endorses Dr. Loraine Lundquist for Los Angeles City Council District 12. The club voted to endorse Dr. Lundquist at the June 5 membership meeting. The special LA Council runoff election is August 13. District 12 covers the northwestern San Fernando Valley, including the neighborhoods of Chatsworth, Granada Hills and Porter Ranch.
"As an astrophysicist, educator, community activist and mom, Loraine Lundquist has unique qualities and experiences that make her an outstanding champion of all the communities in District 12," says HLADems president Lindsay Carlson. "Moreover, our club members enthusiastically believe that it is time for more women to hold offices in the City of Los Angeles, and this special election is a perfect opportunity to make that happen right now.” Of all 18 elected officials in the City of Los Angeles — mayor, city controller, city attorney and city council members — only two are women. HLADems believe that the time is now for the City of Los Angeles to catch up with its progressive values and recognize that representation matters. In a district that has more Democrats than Republicans, the key to winning will be voter turnout. Loraine Lundquist received her PhD in physics from UC Berkeley, and works as a Faculty Associate for the Institute for Sustainability at CSU - Northridge. At this spring's endorsement meeting with the HLADems Executive Board, Dr. Lundquist broke down how we can address our climate crisis at the City Council level in a sensible, intelligent, and passionate manner. HLADems were impressed with her intellect and her drive to implement green policies at the local level. While making LA a leader in a new green economy is her signature issue, she is also focusing on homelessness and housing, paid parental leave, city services, closing down Aliso Canyon, creating clean transportation services, and more. https://www.loraineforla.com/
