Heart of LA Democratic Club Endorses Sydney Kamlager for State Senate Seat (SD30)
Special election is Tuesday, March 3
Los Angeles County, CA – The Heart of LA Democratic Club (HLADems), a Los Angeles County Democratic club that promotes equality and the full representation of women in local, state and national politics, endorses Sydney Kamlager for California State Senate (SD 30). Kamlager is running for the seat recently vacated by Holly Mitchell, who was elected to the LA County Board of Supervisors, District 2. The special election will be held Tuesday, March 3.
Heart of LA Executive Board and membership was impressed by Sydney Kamlager’s track record of legislative accomplishments to lift up all Californians and enact bold systemic change, her very specific policy priorities including the developing Working Families agenda, and plans to ensure that the diverse constituency in the District will be heard and well represented. She is a staunch supporter of women and feminist candidates, who continues to use her position and platform to create pathways for others to seek elected office and build power within the Party. In her own words – “You grow power, when you share power.”
HLADems is excited at the prospect of Assemblymember Kamlager having both more responsibility and greater opportunity to shape policy that will make a meaningful difference in the lives of so many Californians, especially amidst crises of epic proportions.
Assemblymember Sydney Kamlager
About Sydney Kamlager Sydney Kamlager currently serves as State Assemblymember for the 54th District, where she has distinguished herself as a leader on issues including criminal justice reform, equity, housing security, reproductive health care and climate change. Prior to that, she served as an elected Trustee to the Los Angeles Community College District Board, where she fought to make higher education and career training affordable and accessible to everyone, including students who were previously in the foster care system or incarcerated. She began her career in public service as District Director for Holly Mitchell, when she was first Assemblymember and later as Senator.
The Assemblymember is a fighter for frontline workers, low- and middle-income families, women, small businesses struggling to stay open, students who can’t afford college, immigrants confronting dangerous new immigration policies, people with disabilities, the LGBTQ community, people held down by structural racism and communities disproportionately exposed to health hazards.
About the Endorsement Process Three candidates sought endorsement from HLADems for the California State Senate District 30 seat – Culver City Vice Mayor Daniel Lee, California State Assemblymember Sydney Kamlager and civil attorney Cheryl Turner. All three completed the club’s candidate questionnaire and participated in an interview with the Executive Board. In meeting with the candidates, the Board was impressed with their vision and commitment to public service. After deliberation on the candidates’ experience, track record and plans to serve the 30th District and the state, the Board voted to recommend endorsement of Sydney Kamlager. The membership voted to endorse Sydney Kamlager at a special January 17 membership meeting.
