About Maria Elena Durazo: The only Latina running for California State Senate, Maria Elena Durazo has a long list of very impressive accomplishments. As the daughter of Mexican immigrants, she spent summers working on farms in the Central Valley. She later became one of the first Latinas to lead a major union - the LA County Federation of Labor. She currently serves as Vice President for Immigration, Civil Rights, and Diversity of UNITE HERE, an organization that represents more than 265,000 hotel and hospitality workers across North America.
